In the article below, the author is stating that the Tech industry has a long-standing diversity and inclusion problem. I believe he means it in the sense that not enough women, Black people and Latinx (the x suffixed is to include both genders) are in Tech companies in the U.S. For instance, Google reports in 2020 that 5.5% of employees identify as Black (or Black and any other race), and 6.6% identify as Latinx or Latinx and any other race, and 32.5% employees identify as women. For reference, the U.S. has about 13.4% and 18.5% as Black and Hispanic/Latino of the the population respectively. The author believes that due to the pandemic and the fact that in principle you can hire talent anywhere since they can work from home that Tech companies has an opportunity now to make their workforce represent better the demographics of the country. An interesting idea. I hope so. However, I think this definitely is not enough. Getting companies in general to have their employees’ distribution resemble the country’s demographics is not by any means an easy problem to be fixed. I believe both the political Right and Left have good ideas and bad ones. I will not get into this discussion for now due to lack of time.
في المقالة فوق، الكاتب بيقول ان شركات التكنولوجيا عندها مشكلة متأصلة من زمن في موضوع التنوع و التضمين (مثلا في انهم يعينوا الستات و السود و اللاتينو – اللاتينو هم اللي اصولهم من امريكا اللاتينية). انا اعتقد ان الكاتب يقصد ان مفيش عدد كافي من الستات و السود و اللاتينو في شركات التكنولوجيا في امريكا. على سبيل المثال شركة جوجل بتقول في تقريرها في 2020 ان 5.5% من موظفينها سود و 6.6% لاتينو و 32.5% ستات. للمقارنة، الولايات المتحدة عنها 13.4% من سكانها سود و 18.5% لاتينو. الكاتب يعتقد ان بسبب وباء الكورونا و ان حاليا الشركات تقدر تعين اي حد من اي مكان مش ضروري مثلا من سيليكون فالي في سان فرانسيسكو في كاليفورنيا في امريكا، ان ممكن دلوقتي ان الشركات تعين ناس من اي حتة في البلد و ده يديها المقدرة انهم يخللوا نسب موظفينهم مشابها لنسب المجموعات المختلفة في البلد. فكرة مثيرة للاهتمام. انا اتمنى ان ده يحصل. مع ذلك، انا اعتقد ان ده مش كافي. اننا نخللي شركات التكنولوجيا تخللي عدد موظفينها يمثلوا بشكل عادل نسب المجموعات المختلفة في البلد مهمة مش سهلة خالص و لا مشكلة سهلة اننا تتحل. انا اعتقد ان كلا الاتجاهين السياسيين اليمين و اليسار عندهم افكار كويسة و افكار مش كويسة. انا مش هخوض في مناقشة الموضوع ده نظرا لضيق الوقت.
